Note that I post photos from a lot more hikes in my SmumMug Gallery. Those usually get posted within a day or two of the hike, with the most recently done hike posted first. The webpages get built whenever!!
December 20, 2015 - A volunteer with Jones Gap State Park told me the Hospital Rock trail is back open!! Such good news. I hope to hike this trail soon to get a first hand look and will update my page on that hike when I do.
May 29, 2015 - Trip report of an exploratory/bushwhack hike that headed east from Lost Cove. I've noticed an old roadbed that heads east from this abandoned community on my various trips there, and I was curious if it went over the mountain to the small community of Poplar, NC.
December 29, 2014 - 2 Trip reports posted: a 6.4 mile loop hike that includes stops at 3 waterfalls: Greenland Creek Falls, Halfway Falls, and Carlton Falls, in Panthertown, in the Nantahala National Forest, NC., and nearby Raven Rock Falls.

September 9, 2014 - Lost Cove, located in Yancey County, NC is a ghost town of sorts ... it was the home for a community of mountain folk from the mid 1800's to the 1950's. Now, nature is slowing taking over this place, but there are still lots of remains from this once thriving community A neat place to hike to and spend a day!
August 25, 2014 - Don't faint, but I've finally started in on this website's Spiritual Ramblings section, a mere 5 years after getting this website up and going!
August 15, 2014 - Moonshine and Confusion Falls, located in northern Greenville County, SC are only 0.2 mile apart, and are well worth the hike to get to. This page lists 4 different routes to these two beauties. But be aware that the EASIEST route is 7.4 miles round trip. The hardest route has you traversing over 1000 foot elevation change along a boulder garden at the base of Caesars Head. Check out this page for maps of all 4 routes, as well as elevation profiles.
March 15, 2014 - Trip report on the Twin Falls that are in South Carolina (not to be confused with the Twin Falls just outside of Brevard, NC). There are two trails to these falls ... one that takes you to an observation deck directly across from the falls' base; a second which takes you right to the top of the main drop.
March 12, 2014 - Trip report of a bushwhack to a previously undocument waterfall on an unnamed tributary off Rocky Bottom Creek, near Rocky Bottom, SC. This one's a beauty!.

February 4, 2014 - Trip report of my hike to the Waterfall on Kuykendall Creek. 9 mile loop hike, with a bushwhack of about 0.3 mile down to the creek. Even without the bushwhack, this is a nice loop hike.
January 11, 2014 - Trip report of my hike to Laurel Fork Falls along the Foothills Trail. Did you know it's only a little over 4 miles, one way to this beauty??
December 30, 2013 - I've updated my page on Rough Creek Watershed Trail with information on some newly published maps of the area.
December 25, 2013 - I've updated my page on Devil's Creek Trail. This trail now connects with Lost Cove Trail. The page includes info on making a 9.1 loop hike all around Flattop Mountain.
December 22, 2013 - A 3 mile hike/bushwhack to Side Pocket Falls on the Horsepasture River.

December 15, 2013 - Well, my new year's resolution is to update this website better!! I've actually been hiking a whole lot, just not getting the hikes onto these pages. Pretty much all of them get into my SmugMug Galleries, complete with GPS track and elevation profile.
BUT!! I've got a superb hike posted for my current update ... this is bushwhack hike from Raven Cliff Falls (or at a least the trail that leads to the suspension bridge over the falls), across Julian Creek, over to Raven Cliff CLIFF ... that is the cliff ridgeline that is called Raven Cliff, not the waterfall, then down some old forest roads to Burgess road in Greenville County, SC.

April 17, 2010 - With the recent purchase of my first GPS, and several months' worth of using it and learning how to download and record tracks, I'll now be adding GPX files for downloading, as well as maps showing the tracks of each hike to each of my trip reports. First one to which I've added this: Table Rock Hike.
I've also added a trip report for hiking to Table Rock via Pinnacle Mountain Trail, including a stop at Mill Creek waterfall. GPS data is included on this as well.
April 10, 2010 - Page on how to make your own tofu updated with a wonderful link to a page on making your own tofu press. I also updated the directions on tofu making re: how much coagulant to use, showing how to titrate the amount used so you use the lowest amount necessary (if you put in WAY, WAY too much, your tofu will be bitter).

October 28, 2009 - I've updated my "How to Make Homemade Tofu at Home" page to include pictures of how to press the tofu curds if you do not have a tofu pressing box.
September 25, 2009 - The Forest Service has closed Avery Creek Road (FS 477) due to the mudslide that occurred on that road during the heavy rains of Sept 19/20. The road is closed on the southern end just after the horse stables (approximately 2 miles up the road from highway 276). Not sure where it is closed off on the upper end. If heading to Avery Creek Trail/Clawhammer Trail, etc, you'll have approximately 0.4 mile walk on the road beyond the gate to get to the trailhead.
September 24, 2009 - No trip report (yet), but pictures of Twin Falls along Avery Creek Trail following the heavy rains of this past weekend. Also a couple photos of the mudslide along Avery Creek Road.

July 17, 2009 - I recently bought a Swiss Diamond non-stick skillet. This pan is so non-stick that you don't need ANY oil or pan spray or anything! I've added a page that has a video showing this pan in action cooking a tofu omelette, without any oil at all!
